The Registry System went into effect July 1, 1855, the fee being 5c. Early registered covers with various stamps, rates and postal markings are of particular interest to collectors. The Registration stamp was issued Dec 1, 1911 to prepay registry fees (not postage) and were abolished May 28, 1913. Use was permitted until supplies on hand were exhausted. Ordinary stamps were again used as in previous years.
